George Carter

George Carter was the pioneer lighting designer in Jamaica. Beginning in 1940’s, he had lit every major Jamaican theatre event – musical, pageant, play, dance. In 1961 he was awarded the Jamaican government Arts Council Award to study lighting in Great Britain and North America. He gained valuable
experience with the Sadler’s Wells Ballet, the Shakespearean Memorial Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon, and the Welsh National Opera Company in Cardiff. In the United States he worked with the Western Spring Theater in Chicago and the Loeb Theater Center at Harvard.
